Capacity Building — growing independence.

Capacity Building is what turns a Positive Behaviour Support Plan into lasting change. EVSS embeds skill-building into every plan — building independence for the participant, and confidence for the people around them.

Capacity Building at EVSS
What it is

Capacity Building — explained.

Capacity Building in NDIS Behaviour Support is about growing the participant's skills — communication, regulation, choice-making, daily living — and the support network's confidence to keep delivering those gains consistently.

At EVSS, capacity building isn't a separate service bolted on to a Behaviour Support Plan. It's woven through every plan: every proactive strategy, every replacement skill, every training session for the people delivering daily support.

The result is a participant who has more agency over their day — and a team that knows how to keep that growth going long after the practitioner has left the room.

What's included

Every capacity building at EVSS includes:

01 — Step

Replacement skill teaching

Skills the participant is taught instead of the behaviour of concern — communication, regulation, choice-making.

02 — Step

Functional life-skill goals

Daily-living skills aligned with the participant's NDIS goals — independence at home, school and community.

03 — Step

Family capacity coaching

Practical, hands-on coaching for parents and carers so they feel confident applying strategies.

04 — Step

Support-worker upskilling

Training implementing support teams in PBS strategies, de-escalation and replacement-skill prompting.

05 — Step

Environmental capacity

Helping families and SIL providers set up the environment so the participant can succeed.

06 — Step

Reviewable outcomes

Goals written with clear, measurable indicators so progress is visible and reportable.

Who it's for

Capacity Building is right for:

  • NDIS participants of any age building independence
  • Families wanting to feel confident with consistent strategies at home
  • Support workers needing to deliver the plan with skill, not just intent
  • Schools embedding PBS strategies in the classroom
  • SIL providers building team capability around a participant
How it works

From referral to outcome.

  1. Goal-setting with the participant. What does growth look like — in their words, where possible?
  2. Replacement-skill plan. The specific skills we'll build to replace behaviours of concern.
  3. Hands-on coaching sessions. Practitioner-led sessions in the participant's natural environment.
  4. Family & carer coaching. Working alongside the people who'll keep the work going day-to-day.
  5. Implementing-team training. Group sessions for support workers, teachers and SIL teams.
  6. Progress review. Measurable indicators so growth is visible and reportable to the Support Coordinator.

EVSS Capacity Building is delivered by qualified NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioners and is grounded in Positive Behaviour Support and Applied Behaviour Analysis.
Each capacity-building goal is written with clear, measurable indicators — frequency counts, skill mastery checklists, environmental observations — so progress is visible to the participant, family and Support Coordinator.
Absolutely — family and carer coaching is one of the most important parts of every EVSS plan. Consistency at home is what makes a strategy stick.
